From Randy’s Desk to You

After 46 years of living in Wisconsin you would think I would be use to our winters, but not yet. We have been lucky that there isn’t a lot of snow but I seem to dislike the cold more every year. We are lucky that we have no does milking until the end of Feb. but that’s the way I planned it. I just don’t enjoy milking when it’s 10 degrees below zero! Our new place does have automatic waterers, so when I do chores if it’s cold all I have to do is feed a little grain, throw them some hay, and I’m out of there! Oh I do give them a little pat on the nose now and then. Come spring they will get all the attention they need. (And it will be warmer).

We had our winter meeting in December. I know it was a bad time to have it, and next year it will be in January. Maybe more of you will be able to make it.  The Spring Show was discussed and it was decided that it would be a 1-day, 2-ring show. This will present several concerns, one being we will need 2 show secretaries. Mary will be one of the show secretaries, if you would like to be the 2nd secretary please let Mary or I know ASASP. Show secretary names need to be on the ADGA show applications. Each secretary will need an assistant. Both rings will need a ring Stewart to help the judge and see that the next class of goats is on deck. Anyone that can help at the show please contact me. Even if you help part-time when your breed is not in the ring would be helpful.   We are also looking for some fundraisers; any ideas please let me know.  (Since the writing of this article, we are now considering a three-ring show.)

The fall clinic was such a success that we will be having it again this fall.   If you have a suggestion for a topic or speaker please let us know.

We would like the spring newsletter to include a “breeders list”.  If you would like to be included in the list please contact  Lisa Heinen at werpknarly@centurytel.net.

We thought some of you would like to have a “classified” section.  This will be done at no charge for WIS-IL members. So if you have something you would like included in the “for sale” or “wanted” ads let Lisa know.

There is going to be a State FFA Goat Show at the Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis, WI. The date will be Saturday & Sunday May 22nd and 23rd.   The 22nd will be solely a youth show. More info is coming, but it looks like they the goats in the youth show will not need registration papers. This will be a great opportunity for young people to show there goats somewhere besides a county fair.  The Sunday show, “the 23rd” will be an ADGA open show.   More info will be coming in the April newsletter and check the WDGA web page.

Joe and Lisa are putting together a web page for WIS-IL. This could be really nice for us. More info coming later.

Let me know your ideas or comments, talk to you soon, Randy
